CARDIFF - Wales coach Mike Ruddock has tendered in his resignation just one year after leading the team to a Grand Slam. His action has shocked observers especially since this is the middle of the Six Nations campaign in which Wales lost to England and then overcame Scotland.

CARDIFF - Defending champions Wales overcame their opening game blues to beat Scotland 28-18 in their Six Nations game last night. Wales had lost to England in their opener at Twickenham last Saturday. Scotland were forced to play with 14 men after Scott Murray was sent off for kicking Ian Gough.

PARIS - France blasted their way past a sluggish Ireland in their Six Nations game at the Stade de France on Saturday with a blitz of tries in the first half. Aurelien Rougerie, Olivier Magne, David Marty and Cedric Heymans all got in tries as the French ran up to a commanding 29-3 lead at half time.

ROME - The Six Nations championship has had a great beginning for England as they overcame a determined Italian side 31-16 on Saturday to make it two out of two wins in the tournament so far. England had earlier overcome defending champions Wales at Twickenham to get off to a flying start, while the Italians were humbled by the Irish in their opener.

Castleford Tigers have a lot of work to do if they are to stay in the Super League after they went down 18-42 to a hugely impressive Hull side. Sid Domic, Shaun Briscoe and Paul Cooke all got in tries for Hull to take them to an overwhelming 18-6 lead at half time.
