LONDON - Alex Gilady, a member of the International Olympic Committee has told BBC News 24 that London won the right to host the 2012 games because a colleague of his pressed the wrong button.

LONDON - BT, the British telecoms behemoth has indicated that it wants to play a key sponsorship role in the London Olympics in 2012. To this effect the company has been taking to senior executives responsible for the conduct of the Games.

Soon after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided that 2012 Olympics would be held in London, the British Olympic Association, FIBA and all interested parties seeking promotion of British basketball met in London to assess the possibility of having a single Great Britain (GB) basketball team.

David Higgins, the man behind the construction of the Sydney Olympics village was today named as the chief of the new Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), which will be responsible for building venues and facilities for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

LDA runs into controversy over CPO

London Development Agency (LDA) has issued a compulsory purchase order (CPO) for securing land needed for the 2012 Olympic Games. This is for a 345 hectare site in east London, which houses around 270 businesses and some private housing societies.

SEATTLE - Airplane manufacturer Boeing has delivered the first of the two specially- painted 737-700s that carry the official logo of the 2008 Olympics to Air China yesterday.
