Preview: Scotland v England

Rugby story by Fred Smith, Fri, 24 Feb 2006 20:04:00 GMT

EDINBURGH - Scotland are on a high after their win against France in the RBS 6 Nations Championship and are confident of upsetting England's applecart when the two teams face-off in the 123rd Calcutta Cup match tomorrow.

England head coach Andy Robinson admitted that Scotland were playing much better this year than they have in previous years, "We saw signs of it last year. They scored three tries against us at Twickenham and could have got a fourth," he said.

"You could see what they were trying to do. They've taken it on a bit, they are playing with real enthusiasm and freedom and this is a Scotland side that has to be respected." However the Scots have a lot of work to do since they looked vulnerable in their 28-18 defeat against Wales at Cardiff.

Scotland captain Jason White believes that his team have it in them to beat England, "A few of the guys have beaten England before so it's certainly good to know, for those coming through the ranks, that we can beat them," he said. "We just have to look to the last game at Murrayfield, we beat France and we need to play like that again. We need to play very well to have a chance of beating them and I'm confident we can do that."

His comments were acknowledged by his England counterpart, Matrin Corry, "They've got something to shout about now and they've some excellent players, who can turn a game," he said. "It's going to be hostile, but, as an Englishman, Murrayfield is a place to which we enjoy going."
