Kaymer wants home comforts

Golf story by sport.co.uk, Fri, 26 Feb 2010 09:02:41 GMT

Martin Kaymer is hoping familiar territory can help him secure victory at the Waste Management Phoenix Open this week.

The world number eight knows the course well as he trains there during the winter months and, with knowledge of the Arizona venue under his belt, the German is hoping he can finally find success at his second home.

He said: "Some friends of mine have lived here for more than 20 years and four years ago I asked them if I could come over for practice in the winter, because in Germany obviously it was too cold.

"They said, 'Yeah, come over and practise for a couple of weeks' and I liked it straightaway.

"I like the mountains a little bit more than the beach and I think the climate is a little bit better. So I really enjoy my time here and it's a beautiful spot."

Phil Mickelson will return for the event after missing last week's WGC-Accenture Match Play and Ian Poulter, who won the contest, will also take part.

The pair will go head-to-head in a threesome that also includes Sony Open winner Ryan Palmer.
