Powell admits Wales career could be over

Rugby story by sport.co.uk, Fri, 26 Feb 2010 08:52:02 GMT

Shamed Wales star Andy Powell has admitted his international career may now be over after being arrested for drink-driving in the aftermath of the Six Nations win against Scotland earlier this month.

He was picked up by police after driving a golf buggy in the early hours of morning following the last-gasp 31-24 success at Millennium Stadium.

His indiscretion has led to him being suspended by head coach Warren Gatland and his future is now shrouded in controversy.

"I regret terribly what I did. I know it could cost me my international career and that tears me up inside every time I think about it," he said.

"I have let Wales down, my family, the fans and everyone involved with rugby, especially Warren Gatland, who gave me the chance to play for my country.

"There is a danger that I won't get the chance to play for Wales again. It's going to be tough, but it's up to me to rebuild my career and get it back on track."

He is due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on March 2 to face charges of driving a mechanically-propelled vehicle while unfit through drink.
