Lee set to confirm Test exit

Cricket story by sport.co.uk, Fri, 26 Feb 2010 08:48:28 GMT

Australian paceman Brett Lee is ready to hang up his Test spikes after struggling to overcome a long-standing elbow injury.

A press conference is due to be held at Sydney Cricket Ground on Wednesday morning and the 33-year-old is widely expected to announce his retirement from the longest version of the game.

The 76-Test star went under the surgeon's knife in December to cure the injury and with a lengthy rehabilitation process ahead, he is ready to call time on his career.

Lee missed last year's Ashes defeat to England after suffering a side strain on the eve of the first Test and hasn't featured for the Baggy Greens since the South Africa Test on Boxing Day 2008.

He said: "As far as my cricket goes, anything is possible - I may play one-dayers, or no cricket at all.

"I may never bowl another ball and if that's the case, I'm so satisfied with my career and my longevity. I'm not saying it's definitely over, but I'm not sure what I want to be just yet.

"To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure what I still want to do in my cricketing life. I need to get to the stage where, if I want to, I can do what I need to do on the field."
