Kieswetter impact impresses Cook

Cricket story by sport.co.uk, Fri, 26 Feb 2010 08:48:23 GMT

Craig Kieswetter has placed himself firmly into the England selectors' thoughts after his stunning debut knock of 143 against Bangladesh Cricket Board XI, according to stand-in captain Alastair Cook.

Following on from his fine form in United Arab Emirates playing for England Lions, he was drafted into the senior squad and he has made an immediate impact, overshadowing the likes of Kevin Pietersen and Eoin Morgan.

Cook believes it is going to be a tough choice for the selectors as they ponder their one-day side for the opening limited-overs clash against Bangladesh on Sunday.

He said: "We knew he could play like that from the Lions games, but to do so on your first official England game, even though it wasn't a full international, is fantastic.

"He didn't look too flustered, took the right options at the right times and played a fantastic knock.

"He's got a very good chance (of breaking into the first XI), he's done very well to push his name forward.

"It's going to make for some tough selection problems down the line, even on this tour, but the ultimate benefit of that is that the England side is improving."
