England cruise to easy victory

Cricket story by sport.co.uk, Fri, 26 Feb 2010 08:48:16 GMT

England cruised to a seven-wicket win against a Bangladesh Cricket Board XI in Fatullah ahead of Sunday's first ODI against Bangladesh.

The hosts could only manage a meagre 155-8 from their 37 overs in a rain-affected contest.

Things could have been much worse as the home side were struggling on 80-7 but, with Tanveer Haider and Alauddin Babu at the crease, they steadied the ship to post a more competitive total.

Haider (35) and Baby (43 not out) produced the only eye-catching performances as Tim Bresnan (2-32) and Ryan Sidebottom (2-35) claimed a couple of wickets apiece while James Tredwell (2-17) got rid of two middle-order batsmen in three overs.

England made light work of their chase and, although Kevin Pietersen (six) failed once again, Alastair Cook hammered 52 from 51 balls before retiring hurt.

Big-hitting Eoin Morgan fell for nine before Matt Prior and Luke Wright guided England to an easy win.

It was Prior who caused much of the damage, hitting nine fours in his unbeaten knock of 64 from 56 deliveries.

Wright was also left standing at the end as he ended the innings with 20 from 16 balls, with two fours and a six as the tourists wrapped up the win, scoring 155-3 from just 29.2 overs.
