Baltacha takes Michigan title

Great Britain's Elena Baltacha took the title at the Dow Corning Classic in Michigan with a three-set victory over top seed Lucie Hradecka.

The Czech Republic player took the first set 7-5, before Baltacha rallied superbly to take the next two 6-2, 6-3.

Meanwhile, Spain's Fernando Verdasco emerged victorious at the San Jose Open by securing a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 final home win over home favourite Andy Roddick.

Left-hander Verdasco had last his previous seven meetings with the American, as well as his last 15 matches against other players ranked in the top ten.

He said after his long-awaited success: "I know the top-ten guys are tough and last year I was really close in a lot of matches, but of course this win will give me a lot of confidence.

"I served very well and I don't think Andy served his best. I tried to be aggressive, change the rhythm and play with confidence."

Sweden's Robin Soderling took the honours at the World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam after Mikhail Youzhny was forced to retire hurt when trailing 6-4, 2-0 in the final.

Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain saw off Lukasz Kubot 6-1, 6-0 in the Brasil Open final in Costa do Sauipe.
