Lotus set realistic targets

Motorsport story by sport.co.uk, Tue, 23 Feb 2010 09:02:34 GMT

New team Lotus have set themselves realistic goals ahead of their return to Formula One this season.

The famous name in motorsport will end a 16-year absence from the Formula One grid when they line-up for the first race of the 2010 season in Bahrain next month.

But despite the Lotus name evoking memories of past successes, team principal Tony Fernandes is refusing to set any major goals.

"I'd just love to finish every race," explained Fernandes. "If we can beat some of the (other) new teams, that would be a fantastic start.

"If we can beat some of the established teams, that would be great."

Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen were secured as the team's drivers earlier in the off-season and Fernandes is delighted with the acquisition of the experienced duo.

He added: "We're not here to finish last in every race. We aim to compete with the best and our ambition is shown by the drivers we have signed."
