Kear delighted with Wildcats win

Rugby story by sport.co.uk, Tue, 23 Feb 2010 08:59:02 GMT

Wakefield coach John Kear was delighted following the magnificent 28-18 victory against reigning Super League champions Leeds Rhinos.

The Wildcats have a 100 per cent record at the start of the new campaign with three victories to their name.

Six penalties and a try from Danny Brough helped their cause and they sit two points ahead of Warrington, Wigan and Hull atop the league.

"The sweetest part of that was the performance, we've taken another step forward in these past two weeks," said a delighted Kear.

"We started really well, completed lots of sets and played some great football. We really put them under pressure and that set the tone for the game.

Brian McClennan's men have lost two of their opening three games as their slow start continues.

He added: "It's disappointing we've come out on the wrong side, we let Wakefield get away from us too much.

"It was too big a mountain for us to climb, in the end we started to make some good progress in the fourth quarter. I liked some of the things we did, there are some positive signs.

"We gave away too much possession, we pushed the pass a little too much at times and didn't have our timing right."
