Khan focussed on Salita fight

Boxing story by sport.co.uk, Mon, 07 Dec 2009 09:29:43 GMT

Amir Khan is refusing to look too far ahead as he prepares for his WBA light-welterweight title defence against Dmitriy Salita.

The 22-year-old has been linked with bouts against Juan Manuel Marquez, Ricky Hatton and Manny Pacquiao since he beat Andreas Kotelnik in July but is keen to keep his feet on the ground.

He said: "My total focus is on Salita. People have been mentioning other names to me, asking 'what do you think of this guy?'

"But the thing I say to them is I've got a guy in front of me who wants to beat me and I need to win that fight.

"If I lose the fight there will be no point in talking about other fights. I need to beat this guy first and then sit down with my team and see where we go from there."

Salita is unbeaten in his career to date, winning all 30 of his fights, with 16 of them being knockouts.
