Walker questions Orford move

Rugby story by sport.co.uk, Mon, 23 Nov 2009 09:07:28 GMT

Gold Coast Titans winger Chris Walker has threatened to derail Matt Orford's transfer to Bradford Bulls, claiming that he has already agreed a contract with the Super League club.

Orford has agreed a four-year contract with the Bulls, but his arrival from manly Sea Eagles could be delayed if Walker takes the matter further.

His agent, Chris Orr, told the Ten Network: "We will be looking at all options and the players association will be looking at all options and until Chris Walker's situation is resolved I can't see how they can sign Matt Orford.

"It sets a terrible precedence if clubs can stockpile contracts sat on their desk and pick and choose who they want to activate. There has got to be a duty of care."

Meanwhile, Bulls head coach Steve McNamara is confident that Orford will be a big hit at Odsal Stadium, when he eventually completes his switch.

He told the Telegraph & Argus: "Matt's a very high-calibre player and his record speaks for itself.

"Paul Deacon has been outstanding for us but, with the opportunity he had at Wigan, we felt this was in the best interests of everybody.

"So we had to do some research and we spoke to contacts before making an offer to Matt. We're delighted to sign such a strong replacement."
