Reds sign versatile Holdsworth

Rugby story by sport.co.uk, Mon, 23 Nov 2009 09:07:24 GMT

Salford City Reds have bolstered their squad by snapping up the Canterbury Bulldogs play-maker Daniel Holdsworth.

The 25-year-old is coach Shaun McRae's latest signing, subject to him being granted a work permit.

Holdsworth is a versatile player having gained experience at stand-off, scrum-half, hooker and loose-forward during his time in Australia.

"For his age Daniel has played a lot of games in the NRL," said Salford's director of football Steve Simms.

"He's a great playmaker who can play at six, seven, nine or thirteen and he's also an excellent field and goalkicker.

"He hasn't had the chance to show that at Canterbury because he is behind El Masri but we will certainly take a look at that option.

"His all-round game is quality and we can't wait for him to get over here with us and join what has been a great start to pre-season."
