Flournoy could face further suspension because of appeal Sports story by Carl Anders, Mon, 02 Jan 2006 02:48:00
GMT Fab Flournoy, the player-coach of the Newcastle Eagles, has been called for an interview by the West Midlands police after they received a complaint from Birmingham Bullets manager Skouson Harker. Flournoy has also asked for a personal hearing after he was banned for three games following the incident where he punched Harker in a BBL game on December 10. Although, he risks further disciplinary action, Flournoy can now play in Friday's BBL Trophy semi-final against the Scottish Rocks. Flournoy accused his counterpart of elbowing him and then proceeded to punch him after which both came to blows. The punching incident is on record on several tapes and since it was witnessed by dozens of fans, England Basketball's panel might very well decide that the appeal is a delaying tactic and increase Flournoy's ban further. In the game Flournoy was sent off, while Harker was also thrown out for swearing at officials. Harker then complained to the police that Flournoy had an altercation with him in the locker-room corridor, but till now the latter has not been called by the police. Commenting on this whole issue, an Eagles spokesman said, "We have no comment to make. The matter is in the hands of our solicitor." In other news, Olu Babalola is slated to make a move to the Eagles after he was allowed to leave by Italian club Roseto. Harker on the other hand missed the Guildford match, but should be available for subsequent games.
