Whistling doesnt just affect him but the entire team

Football story by sport.co.uk, Tue, 13 Oct 2009 08:57:19 GMT

Former Sevilla, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Benfica winger Jose Antonio Reyes has pleaded with fans of current club Atletico Madrid to back him and his teammates as los colchoneros look to turn around their poor start to the La Liga season. The beleaguered former Spanish winger has struggled to find his form since returning to form after his time in north London with the Gunners and also stressed that no individual in the squad was more desperate to prove his worth to the Vicente Calderon faithful than him.

"We have gone through a bad patch, we cannot disguise that, but we have recovered," Reyes told Marca before giving his backing to under-fire tactician Abel Resino.

"We're doing well after the last win. We are with the coach and the coach with us."

"No one is more eager than me to score a goal,” continued the 26-year-old.

"The applause of the Vicente Calderon is practically unforgettable.”

Reflecting on the fickle nature of the home fans, Reyes also stressed that it was better for the players to get the full backing rather than have teammates pinpointed for abuse and whistles.

"When the supporters whistle a player, it doesn't just affect him but the entire team," he concluded.”
