Tadese makes it three in a row

Eritrean runner Zersenay Tadese secured his third successive World Half Marathon title by surging to victory in Birmingham on Sunday.

He set a new championship record of 59 minutes and 35 seconds to beat Kenyan Bernard Kipyego into second spot while Dathan Ritzenhein of the United States was third.

Kenya took the team title while Eritrea were second and Ethiopia third.

In the women's race, Kenyan Mary Keitany showed why she was the favourite to win the title by leading from start to finish.

She also set a new championship record, previously held by Paula Radcliffe, as she triumphed in one hour, six minutes and 36 seconds.

Another Kenyan runner, Philes Ongori, came second, just ahead of Ethiopian Aberu Kebede.

Claire Hallissey and Michelle Ross-Cope were the best of the GB & NI finishers.

Kenya took the team title, Ethiopia were second and Russia third.
