Harry Redknapp is very much in the headlines this afternoon with the Spurs manager being linked with a move for Honduran international Oscar Chavez. The defender could make the switch to England as cover for the Spurs’ backline. West Ham United’s Scott Parker is also a potential recruit for the Lilywhites with reports claiming that a £5m bid could be made before the transfer window closes. Should that move be pushed through it would signal the end of Jermaine Jenas’ time at White Hart Lane; the England international is wanted at Aston Villa and could move for £8m. Sir Alex Ferguson likes the look of Luka Modric and will, according to one spurious account, attempt to bring the Croat to Old Trafford while sending Michael Carrick and £10m back to north London. Roman Pavlyuchenko is still wanted in Italy by AS Roma according to the Italian national press. The Russian international has been reduced to a bit part role so far this season struggling to usurp Redknapp’s pint-size foursome of Defoe, Lennon, Modric and Keane. Michael Owen has lauded Wayne Rooney’s 100 goals for Manchester United and also backed himself to come good in the face of media criticism for his recent struggles in front of goal. Several Spanish based superstars look set to stay in La Liga with Valencia dup David Villa and David Silva not up for sale after the club solved their financial worries. Atletico Madrid’s Sergio Aguero and Diego Forlan will also be offered new deals at the Vicente Calderon if they make it into the group stages of the Champions League. Hertha Berlin have given up hope of trying to sign Andriy Voronin from Liverpool and claimed that the player looks likely to feature in Rafael Benitez’s plans for the rest of the season. Manchester City could add further cover to their defence with the signing of veteran Brazilian Sylvinho. The out-of-contract former Barcelona and Arsenal man could provide cover for Wayne Bridge. Carlos Tevez has continued his one man war with Sir Alex Ferguson and claimed that the Manchester United boss is running scared of Manchester City’s spending power. Aston Villa are the most likely destination for Newcastle United centre-back Steven Taylor. The player, who has also been linked with Everton and Arsenal in recent weeks, is thought to be keen on a return to the Premier League. Marouane Chamakh is delighted with life in Bordeaux as his side gets off to a flying start in Ligue 1. The Premier League target also spoke of his rejection of a move to Upton Park and the prospect of another year in France. Julio Baptista has also turned down a chance to strut his stuff in the East End of London, but reports in Italy claim fellow Rome based player Goran Pandev will make the switch to West Ham. Gianfranco Zola’s Italian heritage also appears to be behind another deal with AC Milan eager to swap Italian international Massimo Oddo for Frenchman Julien Faubert. Samuel Eto’o still doesn’t understand why he was sold by Barcelona but has stressed that any bad feeling is now behind him. The Cameroon striker is feeling the love at the San Siro after Jose Mourinho courted him for several years. |
