England legend heralds Ferguson Giggs and Ronaldo

Football story by sport.co.uk, Fri, 03 Jul 2009 09:19:07 GMT

England football legend Sir Tom Finney has heaped praise on Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson for maintaining old fashioned, but fine football traditions throughout his career, as well as commending modern wingers Ryan Giggs and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Finney told goal.com: “He’s (Sir Alex Ferguson) done a great job at Manchester United. He’s had over twenty years there and won the Premier League many times.”

“Alex Ferguson’s football is still rooted in values which a lot of people look on as old-fashioned, but they are steeped in British tradition.”

He added: “He has nurtured some great young players like Scholes, Beckham, Giggs and young Rooney. And he is still bringing through players from the youth team.”

Finney, himself one the finest wingers the game has ever seen, also reserved special mention for two players who have carried on his mantle of wing wizardry, Giggs and Ronaldo.

Finney said: “I’ve particularly looked at wingers and Ronaldo is one of the best footballers in the world now. He plays wide and gets the ball across and is able to beat a man.”

“Ryan Giggs has played at the highest level for many years and I believe he can still play as a winger for some time yet.”
