Sir Tom Finney believes Fabio Capello and Chelsea’s John Terry have slowly changed the perception of England’s international side.

The England legend, and one of the game’s all time great players, suggests Capello has made a great start as England manager. 

Finney told goal.com: “I'm positive about Capello, he has the desire and has real ambition”

“It’s early days for him, people have to be very patient, it’s not a five-minute job and I think when people come in at international level, it’s a step up.”

“Invariably, you’re playing against good players and you have to be at your best to make an impression.”

“My team of 1950 threw away a fantastic opportunity. However, in all fairness, recent England teams have given away our place as the mother country of football. We are not feared and the prospect of playing England does not intimidate opponents like it used to.”

“And I’m sure this is something the Italian lad (Capello) will address and I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen so far. He has a no-nonsense attitude.”

Finney also spoke warmly of England and Chelsea captain John Terry.

He said: “I’ve also been quite impressed with what I’ve seen of John Terry.”

“He is an inspiration to both Chelsea and England and has the right attitude whilst out on the pitch.”
