Springboks eye whitewash

Rugby story by sport.co.uk, Thu, 02 Jul 2009 09:43:20 GMT

South Africa's assistant coach Dick Muir has promised that the Springboks will field their strongest possible team against the British & Irish Lions in Saturday's third Test in Johannesburg. Two narrow victories in the first two Tests have ensured that the series is already won, but Muir is keen to complete a 3-0 whitewash.

He said in the build-up to the game: "Obviously we'll be taking a couple of things into consideration.

"It's been a long year and we have a tough Tri-Nations ahead of us. Then the guys have the Currie Cup and there's the year-end tour, but we'll put out the best possible team.

"There's certainly a strong motivation to win the final Test. It's certainly an honour for South Africans to play against the British & Irish Lions.

"The bigger the game the less you need motivation from the coaching staff and this is as big as you get, so we're really determined to try and make it 3-0, as we know that the Lions want to get one Test win.

"I expect it will be as physical this week as last week, if not more physical. I don't think it's going to be difficult for them to get up for it at all."
