Khan eyes Hatton clash

Sports story by sports.co.uk, Tue, 23 Jun 2009 10:05:17 GMT

Amir Khan has paved the way for a sensational showdown with fellow Englishman Ricky Hatton. The WBA light-welterweight challenger is set to take on reigning WBA champion Andreas Kotelnik on July 18 and he is already setting his sights on a clash with Mancunian Hatton. The Hitman has yet to make a definitive decision on his future following calls for his retirement after a crushing defeat to Manny Pacquiao in May.

A return to the ring has been touted and Khan is confident he can tempt Hatton back for one more fight.

"A lot of people are building it up and, after Ricky's defeat, Ricky wants to come back and get a big win so we're just going to leave it with the promoters," Khan, 22, said.

"It's a fight that could happen and what a massive fight it would be in Britain.

"I'm just going to leave it with the promoters. At the moment I'm going my way and he's going his, but if the fight happens I think it'll be brilliant."
