Haye ready to become a legend

Boxing story by sport.co.uk, Mon, 01 Jun 2009 12:39:10 GMT

David Haye is convinced he can become a boxing legend by taking back titles from the fighters who he claims have "nearly ruined the sport". Haye faces Wladimir Klitschko for the WBO and IBF heavyweight titles in Germany on June 20.
Heavyweights from the former Soviet Union currently dominate the division and Haye believes it is his mission to end this stranglehold.

"The Klitschko's and the other robots from the East have nearly ruined the sport and I've put myself in charge of tearing the title back for the fans," Haye told the Sunday Mirror.

"I will get the belts and get the respect for what I'm doing right now.

"I've taken this fight when most people told me I was mad. I'm fighting the best heavyweight in the world when people offered me easier routes.

"I've done all this because I believe in the moment and that moment is now."

Haye added: "I'm fighting away from home and he is the favourite. I'm part of a new breed, I'm my own man and this is truly the start of something new for the sport."
