City get Robinho warning

Football story by sport.co.uk, Thu, 21 May 2009 10:38:30 GMT

Manchester City are in danger of losing Robinho to one of Europe's top sides unless they make dramatic improvements to their squad, according to Brazilian legend Carlos Alberto. In the week that City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak warned that the club's Abu Dhabi-based backers will not splash millions in the transfer market this summer, Carlos Alberto warned that Robinho is likely to move unless he is surrounded by world-class players.

The Brazilian striker has not lived up to his British record fee since being signed for £32m from Real Madrid last August, and deserves to play in a top side according to Alberto, who captained Brazil's famous 1970 World Cup-winning side.

"If Manchester City change the team to a really top side he (Robinho) will improve," said the former Brazil skipper. "They are a good side at the moment, but Robinho always deserves to play for the best teams.

"I hope Manchester City can become a much better team for next season he can stay. He has already had to change the way he plays because it is easier to play in Spain than it is here in England, where the marking is very tough. But he is still a good player."
