Everton have had to ban The Sun’s journalists from attending the football club’s plays, not to mention their training ground in response to columnist Kelvin MacKenzie’s remarks as for midfielder Ross Barkley.
The paper’s major editor (1981-1994), MacKenzie had courage to compare the Nigerian player Ross Barkley to an “ape” following a recent incident with him in a Liverpool nightclub, where the player was punched in the face.
Issued in Friday’s edition of the paper, the column, generated a slew of insulting comments against Ross Barkley as well as the city of Liverpool.
Joe Anderson, Liverpool’s mayor, led calls for Everton for the purpose of following the lead of their neighbors Liverpool and banning the newspaper’s journalists from the football club.
In Saturday’s statement, Everton informed that the newspaper wouldn’t be allowed to illustrate anything regarding the football club’s operation, although avoiding referencing MacKenzie by name.
