On Saturday, at Wembley Stadium history was made in front of a record crowd by Anthony Joshua. He became the UK’s latest world heavyweight unified champion.
Wladimir Klitschko, who’s one of the most dominant heavyweight champions in the history of boxing, coped with an early assault from Joshua during the bout’s first four rounds, but then in the fifth he got floored by a series of punches.
However, during the four rounds Wladimir managed to have Joshua dropped with a powerful overhand. Nevertheless, Joshua rode out the four rounds, successfully recuperating his energy for a furious assault, which violently broke Wladimir’s sturdy defence. Joshua’s right uppercut sneaked through Wladimir’s defence and the rival’s head was whipped back. As a result, the referee brought a halt to the bout.
The brutal and mighty uppercut, which enabled Joshua to claim another win turned to be nearly a mirror image of the legendary punch, which Lennox Lewis employed versus Wladimir’s brother, Vitali Klitschko 14 years earlier.
